On Wednesday 16 November, The Lincoln Parliamentary Research Centre welcomed a delegation from the University of Venda, South Africa, to Lincoln. The University of Venda, situated in Thohoyandou in the Vhembe district of the Limpopo Province of South Africa was established in 1982 and is celebrating its 40-year anniversary.
The purpose of the visit was to conduct an exploratory benchmarking exercise with ParliLinc regarding the establishment of a South African Centre for Legislative Research, and to learn a little more about legislative research in the UK. Dr Hlengani Baloyi, Postdoctoral Fellow and Director of the Centre for Legislative Research was accompanied by Prof Bongani Bantwini, Executive Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education from the University of Venda. The delegation met with Dr Mark Bennister and Dr Andrew Defty from ParliLinc together with College Director of Research Prof Richard Barnes. They also met other colleagues from across the University, including the International Office. It is hoped the visit will lead to further collaboration with the University of Venda.
